What’s the difference between art therapy and creative wellbeing?

It depends on where you live.

  • Art therapy is for people living in Australia, including NDIS participants with plan-managed or self-managed plans. My registration as an art therapist (AThR) applies in Australia.
  • Creative wellbeing sessions are for people living outside Australia. They use simple, creative practices to support your wellbeing. They’re shaped by my training as an art therapist and can feel deeply therapeutic, but they’re a non-clinical service.

Both happen online, and private sessions cost the same. Not sure which fits? We can talk it through on a free intro call.

Is this therapy?

If you live in Australia, yes. Sessions are art therapy with me, a Masters-trained art therapist (AThR) and Professional Member of ANZACATA.

If you live outside Australia, sessions are offered as creative wellbeing rather than art therapy, because my art therapy registration is Australian. They’re shaped by my art therapy training and can feel therapeutic, but they’re non-clinical. They aren’t counselling, psychotherapy or mental health treatment, and there’s no diagnosis or clinical assessment.

Instead, they focus on:

  • Regulation, rather than analysis
  • Creative process, rather than talking alone
  • Supporting the present moment
Who is it for?

People of all kinds come to sessions, often because they:

  • Feel overwhelmed, disconnected or emotionally cluttered
  • Find it hard to put feelings into words
  • Feel that talking hasn’t helped, or is exhausting
  • Want a slower, gentler and more human way of checking in with themselves
  • Are curious about using creativity for wellbeing

I especially support neurodivergent children and teens, partners of travelling professionals, adults living with chronic pain, and people who are non-verbal or experience selective mutism.

You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to book.

Do I need to be creative or good at art?

Not at all. The creative prompts are simple and accessible. There’s no expectation to be “artistic”, and nothing you make is judged.

Creativity here is a tool, not a skill.

What happens in a session?

Sessions are online and gently guided. They run for 50 minutes, or 45 minutes with NDIS funding. A typical session includes:

  • A brief check-in
  • A grounding or settling exercise
  • A simple creative prompt
  • Space for reflection, if you want it
  • A small takeaway you can use between sessions

You’re always in control of what you share.

What if I’m going through something serious?

Sessions are not crisis support. If you’re experiencing acute distress or thoughts of self-harm, or you need mental health treatment, I’ll support you to find appropriate local services.

Sessions are designed to complement other support you may have, not replace it.

In an emergency, please contact your local emergency services.

How much does it cost?
  • Intro call: free, 30 minutes, and optional
  • Private sessions: $180 AUD per session, which is a 50-minute session plus 15 minutes of session notes. This is the same for art therapy in Australia and creative wellbeing outside Australia.
  • Living outside Australia? Fees are charged in Australian dollars, and your bank converts the amount.
  • NDIS (Australia only): $156.16 per hour, which is a 45-minute session plus 15 minutes of session notes. Plan-managed and self-managed.
  • Groups in Australia: $85 AUD per child for each 90-minute session, including notes, whether paying privately or through NDIS. See social groups.
  • Groups outside Australia: €45 per person for each 90-minute session, in small groups of up to 5. See social groups.

Can I use NDIS funding?

Yes, if you live in Australia. NDIS funding can be used for art therapy if your plan is plan-managed or self-managed. Not sure? Send me a message and we can work it out together.

Is it online?

Yes. Every session happens online, so you can join from home, wherever you are. I offer both individual and group sessions.

How do I get started?

Most people start with a free 30-minute intro call. It’s a relaxed chat to see if we’re a good fit and to answer your questions.

The call is optional. If you’re ready, you can book a first session straight away. Sessions are 50 minutes, or 45 minutes with NDIS funding.
